The autopsy results for nine-month-old S. S. Dieng, who died at Ndamatou Hospital in Touba, Senegal, are now available, contradicting earlier statements from hospital administration. The family alleges the child died after receiving an injection, while police await toxicology reports. The infant was initially brought to the emergency services of Ndamatou Hospital in Touba on October 2, 2026, reportedly experiencing an asthma crisis. After receiving an injection of betamethasone, a corticosteroid, the child suffered cardio-respiratory arrest and later died in intensive care. The autopsy, conducted at Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Grand Yoff, revealed generalized edema, organ failure, and no signs of traumatic injury. The findings describe widespread fluid accumulation and acute renal and myocardial distress. Authorities sought toxicology and histopathology analysis from the Senegal Poison Control Center at Fann Hospital to determine the cause of death.
