Former Senegalese Minister of Family, Solidarity, and Social Action, Maïmouna Dièye, has clarified details surrounding a $3.7 million (2.3 billion FCFA) aid program for those affected by political events between 2021 and 2023. The clarification follows public discussion regarding figures presented during a handover ceremony in June 2023, which Dièye states were preliminary. The program was designed to support former detainees, those injured, and bereaved families. To date, approximately $3.5 million (2.218 billion FCFA) has been disbursed, with $1.7 million going to over 2,000 former detainees and $660,000 allocated to 40 grieving families. Medical care for 258 beneficiaries, including international evacuations to Turkey, Morocco, and France, accounted for another $1.2 million. A remaining balance of roughly $135,000 is earmarked for outstanding claims and continued medical follow-up.
