Senegal’s copyright society, SODAV, recently released its 2025 management report revealing record domestic revenue collection of over 677 million FCFA. The report indicates that 429 million FCFA was redistributed to 13,035 members, representing an 11.3% increase in membership since 2023. However, the society’s operating budget of 578.7 million FCFA exceeds the amount distributed to rights holders, raising questions about resource allocation. SODAV President Ngoné Ndour explained that the organization operates with limited revenue streams, particularly the lack of implementation of private copying remuneration. She further stated that over 60% of operating costs are covered by a 325 million FCFA state subsidy, advocating for increased government support. The discrepancies have sparked debate within the cultural sector ahead of the society’s general assembly, focusing on financial transparency and equitable distribution of royalties.
