Senegal’s government is prioritizing the strengthening of social safety nets to address economic fragility and widespread household vulnerability. The Prime Minister presented a plan to improve coordination and impact of existing social programs, elevating them as a presidential priority. Central to this effort is the National Unique Registry (RNU), now encompassing nearly one million households, with over half identified as living in poverty. The government aims to streamline interventions using the RNU as a central database and establish a steering committee for oversight. Plans include digitizing social benefit payments by the end of 2026 and accelerating the disbursement of outstanding allocations. Funding will be sought through a forthcoming budget amendment, alongside new legislation focused on social protection and women’s economic empowerment expected in the second half of 2026.
