Mongolia has seen a four to five-fold increase in scooter, moped, and electric bike accidents over the past two years, prompting warnings from the Ministry of Road and Transport. In 2024 alone, 532 accidents were recorded nationwide, resulting in three fatalities. A staggering 95% of these accidents involved riders not wearing helmets or other protective gear. Data from the National Center for Trauma and Orthopedics shows 754 injuries related to these vehicles were reported in the first five months of this year. The majority of those injured were male (61.4%), with the remaining 38.6% being female. The overwhelming majority (95.1%) of injured riders were not using safety equipment, highlighting a critical safety concern.
