French President Macron secured a €6 billion investment from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to build three new theme parks near Paris. One park will be themed around the popular Japanese manga and anime series, Dragon Ball Z, a shared passion between the two leaders. The parks will be located near Cergy-Pontoise, on the site of the former Mirapolis amusement park which closed in 1991 due to financial difficulties. The project, financed by Saudi entertainment group Qiddiya, is expected to create approximately 22,000 jobs. It forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy away from oil and generate $100 billion in non-oil revenue annually through tourism and technology. Regional officials believe the scale of the project will rival Disneyland Paris and significantly boost tourism to the region.
