Officials in Sarawak are stating that the recent increase in the interim special grant from the federal government to RM1.5 billion is insufficient as a long-term solution. Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali emphasized this point, indicating the need for a more comprehensive resolution. The grant, while appreciated, does not address the core issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Sarawak seeks a definitive financial arrangement that reflects its rights and position within the federation. This increase is viewed as an interim measure, not a final settlement of outstanding claims. Negotiations between Sarawak and the federal government regarding MA63 are expected to continue. The state government of Sarawak hopes for a resolution that ensures a fair and equitable financial future for the region.
