A man implicated in the 2020 murder of French teacher Samuel Paty was arrested last Friday at the Asterix theme park. Azim Epsirkhanov, a 25-year-old Chechen national, is currently under a deportation order (OQTF). He was previously sentenced to seven years in prison in March. Epsirkhanov should be under house arrest while awaiting expulsion from France, but was found at the park. Paty’s sister expressed outrage, stating he “mocks French law.” The arrest raises questions about the enforcement of Epsirkhanov’s restrictions and the monitoring of individuals flagged for deportation. Authorities have not yet commented on how Epsirkhanov was able to leave his designated residence.
