A salmonella outbreak has been affecting children in Újezd nad Lesy, near Praha, for two weeks, with nearly five hundred cases reported. Health officials have confirmed that some patients have experienced a worsening of their condition, requiring re-hospitalization, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 99. The investigation points to the school canteen as the source of the outbreak, serving lunch with insufficiently heated and expired eggs. The situation is particularly difficult for the young patients and their parents. The school director, Libor Skala, has already appointed a new head of the canteen and a new social pedagogue has started working at the school. Investigations into the cause are ongoing, but the focus remains on the food handling practices at the school.
