Saint-Louis vibrated with excitement on October 3rd and 4th as it hosted the Flame of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) “Dakar 2026.” The three-century-old city showcased a spectacle blending popular fervor, cultural traditions, sport, and innovation during this stage of the Flame Tour. A pivotal moment occurred on the Sénégal River, where the Flame, carried by children from the Langue de Barbarie, traversed the city in a solemn and festive atmosphere. Former judo champion Fary Sèye and swimmer Ousseynou Diop were entrusted with the Flame's care. Residents of Saint-Louis enthusiastically accompanied the Olympic symbol with songs, dances, and drumming. The event highlighted public support for the Dakar 2026 YOG, the first Youth Olympic Games to be held on the African continent, and demonstrated the city’s shared values of peace, solidarity, and fraternity with the Olympic spirit.
