Aleksandr Samokutyaev, a Russian cosmonaut and veteran of two spaceflights, has died at the age of 56. He logged a total of 331 days in orbit across his two missions, spending significant time aboard the International Space Station (ISS). His first mission lasted 164 days, and his second 167 days. Samokutyaev is recognized as having been a long-duration resident of the ISS. To date, fewer than 300 individuals have resided on the ISS throughout its 26-year history, highlighting the exclusivity of his experience. His passing represents a loss to the Russian space program and the international space community.
