Russia is considering implementing a fee for air travelers as it struggles to fund the production of new, domestically produced aircraft. The measure, currently under consideration in Moskau, could generate up to 2.8 billion Euro in revenue. This development comes as Russia faces difficulties in acquiring aircraft due to international sanctions. The funds raised from the passenger fee would be directed towards supporting the Russian aviation industry and the development of new airplanes. The initiative reflects the financial strain on Russia’s aviation sector and its effort to become less reliant on foreign manufacturers. Delays in the delivery of these new, “russified” aircraft have prompted the consideration of this passenger-funded solution.
