Hadi Matar, the man who attacked author Salman Rushdie in New York four years ago, has been found guilty of terrorism. The jury found that Matar supported Hezbollah, a Lebanese group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government. Evidence presented included photos and writings discovered in Matar’s bedroom demonstrating his support for the group. Prosecutors argued the attack was connected to the 1989 fatwa issued by Iranian Ayatollah Khomeini against Rushdie over his book *The Satanic Verses*, classifying it as international terrorism. Matar, already serving a 25-year sentence for the assault, referenced Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in connection with the attack. Rushdie sustained twelve stab wounds in the attack, resulting in blindness in one eye, but he survived. Matar will face sentencing for the terrorism charge in November.
