A new study by Finnish telecommunications operator DNA reveals that residents of smaller towns and municipalities in Finland spend more time on mobile phone calls than those in larger cities, specifically Helsinki. The research analyzed the duration of calls made on the DNA network between March 2025 and February 2026, creating a comparison across different locations. The data indicates a significant difference in call length, with individuals in rural areas consistently engaging in longer conversations. The study focused solely on traditional mobile phone calls, excluding voice communication through apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. DNA estimates that 70-80% of calls are still made via the traditional mobile network. This suggests a continued reliance on standard cellular calls despite the rise of alternative communication methods, and a more talkative culture in smaller communities.
