Romania’s National Company of Road Investments (CNIR) has approved the construction permit for the Joseni-Ditrău lot, marking the first section of the mountainous A8 motorway – also known as the Transylvania Motorway or Autostrada Unirii. The approval came ahead of schedule, according to Transport Ministry State Secretary Horațiu Cosma. This segment represents the initial phase of the A8’s challenging mountainous route. Notably, this is the first motorway project ever undertaken within Harghita County. The approval facilitates the commencement of construction on this crucial infrastructure link. The A8 motorway is intended to connect Transylvania with Moldova, improving regional connectivity and economic development. This advancement signals progress in Romania’s ongoing efforts to expand its national road network.
