The Romanian National Company of Road Investments (CNIR) has issued the order to begin the design phase for sections 1 and 3 of the Moțca-Iași-Ungheni Motorway, a crucial part of the A8 “Union Motorway.” The design work is scheduled to commence on August 24th. This initiative covers an additional 45 kilometers of the planned highway. According to the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Horațiu Cosma, this marks a significant step forward for the A8 project. The motorway aims to improve connectivity between Romania, Moldova, and potentially Ukraine. The start of the design phase is a precursor to the eventual construction phase, though timelines for that have not yet been announced. This project is considered vital for regional infrastructure development and economic growth.
