Romania’s interim Defense Minister, Radu Miruță, has accused the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of decommissioning 1,635 MW of coal-fired power generation capacity while in power. Miruță claims that former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and former Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan failed to take any action to prevent these closures. He alleges they now express surprise over the decline in coal energy availability. The closures occurred at the Oltenia Energy Complex. Miruță made these statements in a Facebook post, directly attributing responsibility to the previous administration. This accusation highlights ongoing tensions regarding Romania’s energy transition and reliance on coal. The minister's statement implies a lack of foresight and planning regarding energy security.
