Romania’s National Health Insurance House (CNAS) has warned of significant consequences if spending within the National Health Insurance Fund isn’t addressed. Hospital costs and compensated medications represent the largest portion of expenditures. The CNAS proposes incorporating hospital salary increases into per-case payment systems, alongside corresponding service fee adjustments. Regarding medication costs, the agency suggests prioritizing the prescription of cheaper generic and bio-similar drugs when medically appropriate, over more expensive innovative options. These measures aim to improve the financial stability of the healthcare system. Without intervention, the CNAS fears substantial negative impacts on healthcare provision. The proposed solutions focus on both hospital funding models and pharmaceutical prescribing practices.
