A drone was shot down by a Romanian F-16 fighter jet on Friday after penetrating Romanian airspace. The drone travelled deep into Romanian territory but was continuously tracked by radar and interceptor aircraft. Italian Eurofighter Typhoon jets also attempted to intercept the drone but missed their targets. Romanian F-16s, alongside an IAR 330 Puma SOCAT helicopter, were also involved in tracking and ultimately engaging the drone. Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the drone’s origin or purpose, or the type of missile used in the intercept. The incident triggered a rapid response from the Romanian Air Force to defend national airspace. Further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
