Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) has ordered a restart of proceedings in the case against Călin Georgescu, Horațiu Potra, and 22 other defendants. The charges relate to alleged actions against the country’s constitutional order. This decision follows a change in the court panel assigned to the case, necessitating a return to the preliminary chamber stage. Effectively, the trial will begin anew. A new hearing date has been set for June 29, 2026. The defendants, including Georgescu and Potra, will face a full re-examination of the evidence and arguments presented. This lengthy delay underscores the complexity of the case and the significant legal hurdles involved.
