Authorities in Tulcea County, Romania, proposed transferring a local road, DJ 222N (Tulcea – Chilia Veche), to the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) to qualify for modernization funding through the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program. The road runs near the border with Ukraine. County Council President Horia Teodorescu announced the intention in early June, hoping military administration would facilitate improvements. However, the MApN has informed *Libertatea* newspaper that it currently has no plans to assume administration of the road. The SAFE program aims to improve infrastructure in areas bordering Eastern European countries. The transfer proposal highlights regional efforts to bolster infrastructure potentially relevant to security concerns related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The future of the road’s modernization remains uncertain following the MApN’s response.
