Romanian military forces intercepted and destroyed two unmanned aerial vehicles, identified as Gerbera-type drones, on August 11th. The drones were detected drifting within Romania’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea. Critically, they were located near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project, a significant energy initiative. Authorities believe the drones posed a potential risk to the infrastructure. This incident marks a potential escalation of security concerns in the Black Sea region, particularly following Russia’s withdrawal from a grain deal. The Romanian Defense Ministry released video footage confirming the drone destruction. Further investigation is underway to determine the origin and intent behind the drone activity.
