The Romanian government, led by Tomac, has announced ambitious plans to significantly expand the country’s highway and express road network. The goal is to reach a minimum of 2,000 kilometers of operational roads by 2028, an increase from the projected 1,650 kilometers at the end of 2026. Alongside infrastructure development, the government intends to increase the absorption rate of funds from the 2021-2027 Transport Program to at least 85%. A key component of this strategy involves restructuring and streamlining personnel within the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR), CFR SA (Romanian Railways), and Metrorex (Bucharest Metro). These measures aim to improve efficiency and accelerate project implementation within the transport sector. The plan signals a renewed focus on modernizing Romania’s transportation infrastructure and maximizing the use of available European funding.
