Vietnam’s Directorate for Roads has rejected a proposal to reduce toll fees for officials in Hra commune, Gia Lai province. The request stemmed from financial hardship experienced by local cadres due to the existing BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) toll station. According to regulations, the officials do not qualify for toll exemptions. As a result, the local government is now seeking alternative solutions, including constructing a temporary bypass road to circumvent the toll plaza. This situation highlights challenges faced by local authorities navigating BOT infrastructure projects and associated costs. The decision forces officials to find their own means of accessing essential services without incurring toll charges. The province is proceeding with the temporary road construction as a workaround.
