Abortions increased in Finland in 2025, with over 9,000 terminations performed last year. The rise is attributed, in part, to financial barriers preventing young people from accessing contraception. Experts at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) highlighted the cost and availability of preventative measures as key factors. THL’s leading expert, Anna Heino, explained to *Aamulehti* that these issues are central to the increase. The data was initially released by THL earlier in the spring. This trend suggests a need for improved access to affordable contraception options for young adults in Finland.
