Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has called for a comprehensive revision of the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act. The organization warns that if passed in its current form, the law could transform Bangladesh’s cyberspace into a repressive environment. TIB emphasizes the need to incorporate input from relevant experts and stakeholders, alongside international best practices, during the redrafting process. They believe the current draft fails to adequately address concerns regarding potential abuses and restrictions on digital freedoms. The call for revision aims to ensure the law promotes genuine cybersecurity without stifling fundamental rights. TIB hopes a revised version will balance security needs with the protection of citizens’ liberties in the digital sphere within Bangladesh.
