The owner of Hakka Dhaka restaurant, Rafi Uz-Zahhed, 34, initially sought to surrender to a Dhaka court in connection with a case stemming from a 2022 fire that killed 46 people at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road. He appeared before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Safatullah on Sunday, requesting bail. Zahhed’s lawyer, ABM Ibrahim Khalil, represented him during the hearing. However, the owner subsequently withdrew his surrender application. The reason for the initial surrender attempt and subsequent withdrawal remains unclear. The case relates to alleged negligence contributing to the devastating fire. Further legal proceedings are expected.
