Matt Renshaw’s career-best 190 powered Australia to a first-innings total of 390 all out on day two of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead. Despite early struggles, slipping to 124 for six on day one, Renshaw rebuilt the innings with crucial partnerships, notably a record-breaking ninth-wicket stand of 134 with Nathan Lyon. South Africa responded with 27 for one by the close of play, losing Ryan Rickelton for a duck to a Josh Hazlewood delivery caught by Beau Webster. Aiden Markram (15 not out) and David Bedingham (12 not out) will resume for the hosts. Renshaw’s innings is the highest score by a number five batter in Tests played at Kingsmead. The Australian batter focused on wearing down the South African bowlers, particularly Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje, through extended spells.
