Renowned Nepal-British climber Nirmal Purja is missing following an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, one of the world’s highest mountains. Purja was leading a team of ten international climbers attempting to summit the 8,047-meter peak in the Karakorum range. Tragically, four climbers have been found deceased, and six, including Purja, are currently unaccounted for. The team included several well-known figures in the mountaineering community. Purja gained international acclaim in 2019 for successfully climbing all fourteen mountains over 8,000 meters in just over six months. Search and rescue operations are underway, but conditions remain challenging. This incident highlights the inherent risks associated with high-altitude mountaineering.
