Following an initial response from the Israel Defense Forces, thirteen additional heads of Hesder yeshivas (religious institutions combining study with military service) have announced they will suspend recruitment to the armored corps. This decision stems from objections to the integration of women into combat roles within the Tank Corps. Combined with previous announcements, a total of 25 Hesder yeshivas – representing roughly one-third of all such institutions – are now halting recruitment for the armored corps. The institutions cite religious grounds as the basis for their decision, protesting the inclusion of female soldiers in what they consider a traditionally male combat unit. The IDF has acknowledged the concerns but maintains its commitment to gender equality within its ranks. This move raises questions about the future of recruitment from the Hesder yeshiva network into the armored corps. The situation remains fluid as discussions continue between the IDF and representatives of the yeshivas.
