A record-breaking €2.1 million was raised for refugees through the “Night of the Refugee” walk in the Netherlands, despite challenging weather conditions. Approximately 10,000 participants walked routes ranging from 10 to 50 kilometers across the country. While high temperatures prompted a heat plan with increased water availability, the event proceeded largely without incident due to the heat. However, severe rain and thunderstorms in the provinces of Brabant and Gelderland forced the cancellation of two 40-kilometer routes. Organizers were able to redirect many participants to alternative routes, ensuring continued involvement. The funds will support emergency aid for people globally displaced by war and violence, with one participant sharing her personal story of fleeing Iraq as a child.
