The body of Ratko Mladić, the convicted Bosnian Serb general found guilty of genocide in Srebrenica, has been repatriated to Belgrade. A plane carrying his coffin landed at Belgrade Airport earlier today. The return follows Mladić’s death while serving a life sentence at a detention unit of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. At the request of his family, the body will be transported to the Military Medical Academy. Details regarding a commemoration service are pending and will be announced shortly. Mladić’s conviction stemmed from his role in the Srebrenica massacre, the worst mass killing on European soil since World War II, and other war crimes committed during the Bosnian War.
