Dương Đình Lục, a fisherman from Vạn Tường commune in Quảng Ngãi province, Vietnam, has voluntarily surrendered a rare statue of the monkey god Hanuman to the Quảng Ngãi Provincial Museum. The artifact is estimated to date back to the 11th-12th centuries. Mr. Lục recovered the statue while fishing. He was subsequently rewarded for his civic-minded act of returning the culturally significant object. This demonstrates a commitment to preserving Vietnam’s heritage. The statue’s discovery provides valuable insight into the religious and artistic practices of the region during that period. The Quảng Ngãi Provincial Museum will now conserve and display the Hanuman statue for public education and appreciation.
