Rabat, Morocco has inaugurated the permanent secretariat for the “African Capitals of Culture” initiative, following its 2022 designation as an African Capital of Culture. The secretariat will function as the executive arm for cultural affairs within the African Union. The launch event was attended by representatives from the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, official Moroccan cultural institutions, the African Union, and ambassadors from African, Asian, and European nations. This new office aims to foster cultural exchange and collaboration across the continent. The initiative signifies a strengthened commitment to promoting African culture on a global stage. The secretariat’s establishment underscores Rabat’s role as a key cultural hub in Africa. It is expected to facilitate and coordinate cultural programs and events across various African capitals.
