The Punjab provincial cabinet has approved a 5.34 trillion rupee (approximately $31.8 billion USD) budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, prioritizing citizen welfare and economic relief. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated the budget was crafted to minimize financial burdens on residents despite existing economic difficulties and global pressures. Notably, the budget does not include any new taxes and aims to foster development and prosperity within the province. A significant portion of the budget will be allocated to the federal government, but the provincial government remains dedicated to protecting public interests. The Chief Minister directed the Punjab Revenue Authority to improve revenue collection and bolster the province’s financial stability. Sharif expressed optimism that the budget will fulfill public expectations and acknowledged the collaborative effort of her cabinet and officials in its creation.
