The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally requested National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to issue production orders for nine of its Members of National Assembly (MNAs) who they claim are currently “detained.” The request, made ahead of the commencement of the 30th session of the National Assembly and a Senate session, aims to ensure representation from all constituencies. The nine MNAs named in the letter represent various constituencies across Pakistan, including NA-68, NA-89, NA-170, NA-91, NA-43, NA-09, NA-02, NA-25, and NA-262. PTI argues that issuing these orders is vital for impartiality and fair representation within the National Assembly, citing Rule 108 of the 2007 Rules of Procedure. These requests come after President Asif Ali Zardari summoned the parliamentary sessions following discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the political and security landscape. The sessions also follow the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a state of emergency in 12 of its districts, attributed to the previous provincial government’s handling of counter-terrorism efforts.
