The Presidential Palace has responded to reports of two participants in Indonesia’s Village/Urban Cooperative and Fishermen’s Village development programs dying while undergoing basic military training (Latsarmil). The deceased were prospective managers of Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (KDKMP) and Red and White Fisherman Villages (KNMP). These programs aim to foster community-based economic development. The Palace acknowledged the deaths and indicated further information would be released. The Latsarmil training is a component of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) program, designed to equip future leaders with essential skills. Details surrounding the circumstances of the deaths are currently limited, but the incident has prompted a response from the highest levels of government. Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the fatalities.
