Following recent elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will lead the government in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) in a coalition with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The PPP secured the most seats – 12 of 24 – in the GB assembly during the June 7th polls. The agreement, mirroring a similar arrangement at the national level, was announced by leaders from both parties after a consultation meeting. Under the power-sharing formula, the PPP will hold the position of Chief Minister, while the PML-N will appoint the Governor and Leader of the Opposition, and also secure the Deputy Speaker role. Both parties emphasized the importance of political stability and public welfare as priorities for the incoming government. The coalition aims to address regional challenges, accelerate development, and strengthen democratic institutions in GB, prioritizing national interests over party politics.
