This report examines the revitalization of Porto’s former slaughterhouse, now a model for sustainable urban development. The project successfully integrates principles of the circular economy with the preservation of the city’s heritage. Rather than demolish the historical structure, developers focused on repurposing existing resources and materials. This approach not only minimizes environmental impact but also safeguards the building’s cultural significance and collective memory. The transformed slaughterhouse now functions as a dynamic public space, contributing to the vibrancy of the city. It demonstrates how urban regeneration can deliver both economic and social benefits while respecting the past and building a sustainable future. The project serves as a case study for similar initiatives aiming to breathe new life into neglected urban areas.
