Poland’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has identified irregularities in the budget of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), including over 55,000 PLN in unpaid hotel expenses. The audit revealed that former IPN President Karol Nawrocki failed to settle a bill of 55,200 PLN for a guest room. NIK criticized the current IPN leadership for not pursuing the recovery of these funds, despite previous recommendations. The IPN defends its decision not to charge its directors for such expenses, citing the demands of their positions and irregular working hours. This case highlights broader concerns about financial oversight within the state-run institute dedicated to researching Poland’s 20th-century history. The NIK report is expected to trigger further scrutiny of the IPN's financial practices and spending.
