Ugandan police shot and critically injured a man suspected of leading a string of armed robberies targeting mobile money businesses. The suspect, 42-year-old Hamis Keya from Wakiso district, was apprehended during a police operation in Hoima city. Authorities allege Keya orchestrated robberies in multiple districts including Wakiso, Kampala, Luwero, and Masindi. The flying squad, operating in the Albertine region, carried out the operation resulting in Keya’s injury and subsequent arrest. Police are investigating Keya’s involvement in a series of violent crimes against mobile money agents. The arrest aims to disrupt a criminal network impacting businesses across several Ugandan regions. Keya is currently receiving medical attention while in police custody.
