A 55.6-meter statue of the Virgin Mary was consecrated in the Polish village of Konotopie on Saturday, claiming the title of the tallest statue of its kind in Europe. The ambitious project was funded by Polish philanthropists Roman and Grazyna Karkosik as an expression of gratitude. The monument exceeds the height of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. While holding the European record, it is smaller than a 98-meter statue of Mary located in the Philippines. The statue’s completion marks a significant event for the local community and highlights the continued importance of religious monuments in the region. It has quickly become a landmark, attracting attention both nationally and internationally.
