Ukraine’s parliamentary speaker, Ruslan Stefanchuk, has strongly criticized Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to revoke the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Stefanchuk labeled the move a “catastrophic mistake,” warning it will negatively impact bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland. The Order of the White Eagle is Poland’s highest decoration awarded to foreign heads of state. No specific reasons for the revocation have been publicly detailed by the Polish side, fueling speculation about underlying tensions. This action follows a period of increasing friction between the two nations, primarily concerning agricultural imports and historical disputes. Kyiv views the decision as a significant setback in ongoing efforts to maintain allied solidarity amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. The Ukrainian government has yet to announce any immediate retaliatory measures.
