A community rugby league competition in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Stanley Olo League Agencies competition, recently received support from the Australian High Commission and Griffith University experts. The funding was awarded through the Pilai Long Stap Wantaim (Play for Unity) Fund, a program run by Team Up, Australia’s sport for development initiative in the Asia-Pacific region. Over 100 applications were submitted for the fund, but only 23 initiatives were selected for financial assistance. The grant aims to promote inclusion and positive outcomes through grassroots sports. Representatives observed the competition at Unagi Oval, highlighting the impact of the program on the local community. The initiative underscores the role of sport in fostering unity and development within PNG. Access to the full report requires a subscription to Post Courier.
