The president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, stated his desire for Piedmont to become a pilot region in elderly care during an interview with Tgcom24. A new assistance method for the elderly, to be presented on October 30th, focuses on integrating Residential Care Facilities (Rsa) with a broader network of home care services. As one of Italy’s three regions with the highest proportion of elderly citizens, Piedmont aims to allow seniors to age comfortably at home if they prefer, while still receiving necessary care. Currently, approximately 12,000 elderly individuals in Piedmont are awaiting placement in Rsa facilities, and this project seeks to significantly reduce that waitlist. Cirio emphasized that addressing this issue is a priority for the region, alongside ensuring safe schools for children. He views support for vulnerable populations – the elderly and children – as fundamental to Piedmont's values.
