A previously unpublished tragedy by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, titled “The Duke of Parma,” will be staged for the first time in the Italian city of Parma in 2027. The production is scheduled as part of Parma’s program as a European Capital of Youth. The play was published in February of this year, marking a significant addition to Pessoa’s known body of work. Details regarding the production, including the director and cast, have not yet been released. The work is featured in the latest issue of “Pessoa Plural,” a publication dedicated to the poet’s writings and scholarship. This premiere represents a rare opportunity to experience a new work by one of Portugal’s most celebrated literary figures. The staging in Parma acknowledges the play’s title and offers a fitting location for its debut.
