Peru’s Culture Minister Beingolea has confirmed the resignation of an employee following a scandal involving the hiring of both a mother and daughter at the National Library of Peru (BNP). While the mother has stepped down, the daughter remains employed at the BNP. The Minister denied any direct intervention in the daughter’s appointment. Beingolea did, however, concede that he should have foreseen potential public criticism regarding the dual hiring of family members. He also defended his former secretary who resigned amidst the controversy. The situation has drawn scrutiny regarding potential nepotism within the Ministry of Culture.
