Pedestrians in Tete, Mozambique continue to dangerously cross the EN7 highway despite the presence of dedicated footbridges. This risky behaviour is particularly prevalent near the Cambinde and Canongola markets, where residents routinely bypass the safer crossings. The practice exposes individuals to a significant risk of being hit by vehicles, raising concerns among both pedestrians and drivers. Authorities have constructed the footbridges to mitigate this exact danger, but they are largely ignored. The reasons for not utilizing these structures remain unclear, however, the issue presents a serious public safety hazard. This ongoing situation highlights a need for increased awareness and potential enforcement regarding pedestrian safety on the EN7.
