Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan (JI) is attempting to mediate a resolution to ongoing unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging the government to engage in negotiations with the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) rather than employ force. The JAAC, recently outlawed under AJK’s anti-terrorism act, has expressed trust in JI’s mediation efforts and postponed a planned protest march. JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stated that dialogue remains possible and that his organization is working within Pakistan’s constitutional framework to address the situation. Rehman emphasized the importance of a peaceful resolution to prevent potential exploitation of the situation by India for propaganda purposes. JI believes a negotiated settlement is the only viable solution and is actively working to restore trust between the government and the JAAC. The party rejects the notion that the situation is beyond control and remains committed to facilitating talks to address the legitimate demands of the people of AJK.
