A report by EU DisinfoLab alleges a Pakistan-based network has been disseminating pro-Russia and anti-India content online since 2020, utilising fabricated personas and news websites. The network reportedly amplified false narratives regarding India, particularly concerning Kashmir, and promoted viewpoints aligned with Russian foreign policy interests. The operation involved creating fake social media profiles impersonating journalists and experts, along with establishing over 400 websites designed to mimic independent news sources. This coordinated effort aimed to influence public opinion, according to the report, raising concerns about foreign interference and the spread of disinformation. Pakistan's Foreign Office has dismissed the allegations, calling them “India-centric” and lacking evidence, while questioning the credibility of EU DisinfoLab’s methodology. The report highlights a growing trend of state-sponsored disinformation campaigns and the challenges of verifying information in the digital age, specifically mentioning coordinated inauthentic behaviour originating from Pakistan. Journalists and analysts are now examining the network's activities and potential impact on regional geopolitics.
